Thousands of lanterns have been lit at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam for the fourth edition of a campaign by the Dutch Cancer Society. 

With the incredible display, the organization hopes to raise awareness for people who are dealing with cancer.

Each lantern has the name of a loved one fighting cancer or who has lost their battle with the disease written on it. 

Stunning images show the rows of lanterns arranged into a heart shape in the middle of the stadium, glowing in the dark.

Some of the incredible shots show one of the organisers walking through the rows of lights in the venue, completely dwarfed by the number of lights. 

The Dutch Cancer Society was established in 1949 and has run the lantern event for the last three years.
